Summer Internship | UWA Students through McCusker Centre for Citizenship

The Law and International Relations Internship at the Path of Hope Foundation, under the supervision of Rebecca Tolstoy AM, lasts for approx 4 weeks at UWA Campus, Forrest Hall in Crawley, Western Australia. The intern's primary mission is to delve into the complexities of Family Violence (“FV”), studying its societal impacts and the legal frameworks surrounding it. This research is instrumental in compiling 'The Hope Report,' which seeks to shed light on what different countries are doing toward breaking the intergenerational cycle of family violence .

Throughout the internship, the intern undertake a comprehensive analysis of FV, exploring its dynamics and the legislative responses on a global scale. The role extended to researching international conflicts and diplomatic relations, thereby aiding in the formulation and analysis of policies pertinent to both FV and international issues. In addition, the intern play a supportive role in organising local events and enhancing diplomatic strategies, thereby honing skills in intercultural communication and report writing.

Collaboration is a significant aspect of the internship, involving interactions with Rotarians, NGOs, business professionals, and international stakeholders. This facilitates the intern’s participation in FV prevention initiatives and international development projects, embodying Rotary’s commitment to societal change and ethical decision-making. The intern’s work schedule, is three days per week, allowed for a practical application of theoretical knowledge acquired in the fields of Law and International Relations, aiming to deliver comprehensive insights and contribute to societal, legal, and international efforts. This unique role not only offers the intern substantial growth in legal and international relations acumen but also makes a meaningful contribution to policy development, social reform, and international diplomacy.

The Path of Hope Foundation Gala is an evening of celebration and HOPE, there is life after family violence. Join us for a significant black tie event to help celebrate women and children survivors/victors/victims of Family Violence. Net proceeds of the Gala is donated to The Salvation Army’s work in Perth and Karratha directory supporting women and children with services such as accomodation and programs.

Tickets are $250 per person (plus GST & booking fee).
